Impose
Linda Fox is the project of Michael Donovan, a songwriter originally from upstate New York who makes
spectral, dreamy noise pop. In the artist’s new video for his song “Like New,” we witness a couple getting
ready for a wedding that quickly takes a terrifying turn. Everyone at the wedding dies on the dance floor by
the end of the video, we watch partygoers drop to the floor and spit out blood. When matched with the band’s
haunting take on pop music, the video becomes a totally surreal experience.

Linda Fox
is the new solo song-writing project from vocalist Michael Donovan of current duos “Molly Shannon, Molly
Shannon” and “ivyaura” (disambiguation key on both counts). Donovan grew up in secluded
Upstate New York, in a fundamentalist Christian household, and was home-schooled for much of his early
life. The environmental absence of a good number of others his age, mixed with probably some kind of
autism-spectrum disorder lead Donovan to believe that others felt and thought exactly as he did. When he
began to listen to music, this misconception transferred to the song-writers he heard, and to their
lyrics, and he often became convinced that songs were directly related to, or even about his own
personal experiences. No longer belaboring under this misconception, Donovan nevertheless attempts to
craft songs directly for the listener or listeners who believe a song could contain truly personal
meaning for them.
